This two-hour workshop consists of a theoretical and practical introduction to court interpreting. During the first hour of the workshop we review the basics of the three modes of interpreting and when to use them in court. We also review the protocols to be followed by interpreters as officers of the court.
The second hour will be dedicated to role-playing to illustrate some of the situations that might come up in and outside of court: interview by court personnel (consecutive interpreting), initial appearance (simultaneous interpreting) and reading of the complaint (sight translation). This workshop will be presented in English (language neutral).
You must attend the full two hours of the class.
